Free Christmas Budget Template (Printable PDF and Google Sheets)

Christmas costs more than the gifts. A Christmas budget template puts every cost in one place, from presents and food to postage, travel and hosting, so you know your total before you spend a cent. This free pack gives you 24 pages, as a printable PDF or a Google Sheet that adds the numbers for you.

Why Plan Christmas Spending on Paper?

The costs people forget are the ones that break a budget. The National Retail Federation’s 2025 survey found shoppers planned to spend an average of $890.49 per person on gifts, food, decorations and other seasonal items. Gallup’s poll, which counts gifts only, put the average at $1,007. The two numbers differ because they measure different things.

Treat both as reference points. The right amount for you is what you can pay from savings without using credit or touching your emergency fund.

What You Get

Plan and save: Budget Overview, Budget Calculator, Savings Countdown and a 26-week savings challenge.

Gifts: a gift list with a limit for each person, a per-group gift calculator, children’s planner, wishlist, Secret Santa tracker, receipts tracker and a gift card and returns tracker.

Food, home and travel: dinner planner with cost per guest, grocery list, decorations and wrapping, hosting, travel and events.

Cards and giving: cards and postage list, and a charity and giving plan.

Track and review: weekly spending tracker, countdown checklist, 12 saving tips, a holiday debt payoff plan and a post-Christmas review that sets next year’s savings.

How the Spreadsheet Saves You Work

You type each number once, and the linked tabs do the rest:

  • Set your total in the Budget Calculator, and it flows to the Overview, Savings Countdown and Shopping Tracker.
  • Log purchases in the Shopping Tracker. The Overview adds them up by category, and the Weekly Spending tab pulls the amounts by date.
  • Enter your months to save in the Savings Countdown to see your monthly amount and whether you are ahead or behind.
  • Use the Post-Christmas Review to get next year’s monthly deposit.

Blue cells are for your input, black cells are formulas, green cells link from another tab, and yellow cells are assumptions you can change.

Start With These Five

You don’t need all 24 pages. Begin with:

  1. Budget Calculator to set your total
  2. Budget Overview to split it by category
  3. Gift List & Budget to cap each person’s gift
  4. Shopping & Receipts Tracker to log purchases
  5. Savings Countdown to find your monthly saving

How Much Should You Save Each Week?

Divide your total by the weeks left. With about 11 weeks to Christmas, a $600 budget is roughly $55 a week. If you’d rather start early next year, $50 a month from January gets you to $600 by December. Our guide to How to Budget for Christmas shows the full plan.

Questions People Ask

Key Takeaways

  • Set one total before you shop, then split it by category.
  • Averages vary by what they count, so use them as a guide, not a target.
  • Use the Google Sheet for automatic totals and the PDF for pen and paper.
  • Start next year’s Christmas fund in January.
